Overview

The last decades, an increasing number of schools in almost all European countries have adopted the educational approach Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL). As an innovative approach, in which subject matter and a foreign language are taught and learnt side by side, CLIL has developed into a very popular educational innovation.

This course is intended for educators with an interest in CLIL method, who want to widen their understanding of the subject, but also wish to engage with broader pedagogic issues, and enhance and refresh their skills in delivering subject content through English.
This 6-day course is designed for, and dedicated to teachers
• who are looking for meaningful ways of reflecting on their professional practice
• who wish to engage with pedagogic issues and widen their understanding of CLIL
• who are looking to revitalize and energize their approach to teaching
• who wish to enhance and refresh their skills in delivering subject content in/through English
As participants come from different European countries, the course is a valuable exercise in community building and international understanding. There is also the possibility to extend the course to 7-day.

Objectives

During the course, participants will:

• increase awareness and understanding of the potential of CLIL approach and methodolo-gy
• increase knowledge of the key principles of CLIL material development and the integration of content and language teaching
• examine a repertoire of techniques and activities to integrate into CLIL teaching context
• explore ICT tools for communication and collaboration; for sharing data and for creative activities
• explore AI tools for creating lesson plans, worksheets etc.
• enhance their confidence in communicating in English
• increase their intercultural awareness.

Methodology

The working methods that are used are highly practical and participatory. The experiential method is used to encourage the search for contemporary pedagogical theories and teaching approaches. The hands-on approach is used to examine real examples, case studies, surveys and simulations. The group activities foster mutual learning, cooperation and collaboration between participants. The discussions encourage sharing ideas, intercultural dialogue and the exchange of good practices between the participants. Social, networking and cultural activities give participants the opportunity to establish professional cooperation and links with teachers, staff, schools and organisations in Europe. At the end of the course, participants fill in an e-questionnaire for evaluation.

Preparation

After confirming registration, participants will be informed about the details of the course (arrival, daily programme). Participants will be able to introduce themselves and bring a few examples of routines and practices that they apply to their teaching.

• Visit at Limassol Old city center, Castle area, Carob Mill Museum and other monuments.
• Visiting Medieval Castle & Museum
• Doing activities in the city center.
• Data collection for the group work.

DAY 3

• CLIL & Lifelong learning skills
• Strategies for supporting learning in CLIL (2)
• The history of CLIL
• Materials & tools for supporting learning in CLIL
• AI tools for creating lesson plans, worksheets etc.
• Group work

DAY 4

• Preparing a CLIL lesson
• Examining a variety of CLIL lesson plans
• Encouraging speaking and writing in CLIL
• ICT tools for sharing data & communication
• How to involve parents?

DAY 5

• The European dimension of CLIL
• Finding resources
TOUR
• Visit at Limassol Archaeological museum

DAY 7 (optional)

• TOUR TO PAPHOS TOWN (or other cultural sites)
  It includes a tour with 5-stops (9:00 am- 5:00 pm)

  • Paphos Archaeological Park with Roman mosaics
  • Paphos Medieval Castle and port
  • Petra tou Romiou (birthplace of Aphrodite).
